The newly sworn-in Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, on Monday, officially assumed her new role.
She was escorted to the Assembly complex by fellow lawmakers in a strong display of unity.
This transition comes after the impeachment of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, on January 13, over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
In reaction to his removal, Obasa labeled the impeachment “unconstitutional” on Saturday and maintained his claim to the position.
However, he was notably absent from the Assembly on Monday, where security measures had been tightened to prevent any disruptions.
Inside the Assembly complex, the atmosphere was celebratory, with lawmakers and the acting Clerk capturing the moment alongside the new Speaker.
