Manchester United have officially secured the signing of Danish international Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, pending visa approval and registration.
The 20-year-old defender has committed to a contract that runs until June 2030, with an option for an additional year.
The club announced the deal in a statement on Sunday titled “Transfer news: United sign Patrick Dorgu”, expressing their delight at welcoming the young talent to Old Trafford.
Dorgu will don the number 13 shirt at United, following in the footsteps of past holders such as Ji-sung Park, Brian McClair, and John Curtis.
The last player to wear the number was goalkeeper Lee Grant during the 2021/22 season.
Dorgu arrives after an impressive spell at Lecce, where he made 57 appearances and netted five goals.
His performances in Serie A have been outstanding, ranking second for ground duels won and placing among the top four defenders for attempted take-ons.
His talent also shone on the international stage when he made a memorable debut for Denmark, scoring with his very first touch in September.
Reacting to his move, Dorgu shared his enthusiasm about joining the Premier League giants,“I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family.
” I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting. There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.”
Manchester United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, spoke highly of Dorgu’s abilities and potential impact at the club, “Patrick is a really exciting talent; his strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability, and work-rate will make him a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad.
“Patrick has had a superb start to his career, and at the age of just 20, we know he will continue to develop under the guidance of our excellent coaching team.
“Patrick is the latest exciting young player that we have brought into the club. We believe that each of these talents has world-class potential and the ability to play a key role in achieving the success that everyone at Manchester United is striving for.”
Dorgu’s arrival further reinforces United’s commitment to building a squad filled with youthful energy, dynamism, and elite potential under new manager Ruben Amorim.
