The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, stirred controversy during the church’s 72nd annual convention held at Redemption City, Mowe, Ogun State.
Speaking at the RCCG ministers’ conference on Saturday, Adeboye addressed the topic of makeup, stating that women who use it do not believe in the perfection of God’s creation.
Adeboye emphasized that God’s creation was flawless, and any attempt to enhance one’s appearance with makeup reflects a lack of faith in God’s handiwork.
He criticized what he described as excessive spending on wedding celebrations, citing instances where people squander large sums on elaborate photo shoots and decorations, rather than using the money for more meaningful purposes, like educating their children.
In his remarks, Adeboye recalled a significant event where a wealthy American family chose to conduct their daughter’s wedding ceremony in his office in Ebute-Metta.
He highlighted that despite the simplicity of the event, it was blessed and successful, contrasting it with the extravagant weddings he sees today.
“The money spent on such lavish displays could be better utilized,” Adeboye said.
“People spend hundreds of thousands of naira on ‘shoot out’ (photo shoot), and on the wedding day, the bride adorns herself with various decorations. Those who use makeup do not believe that God did a good job.”
He concluded by underscoring his belief in the inherent perfection of God’s creation, asserting, “When God created you, He did a great job. You are wonderful, perfectly made, and unique. Trying to alter that is foolish, as you can never improve on what God has already done.”
