Liverpool will battle Newcastle United in this year’s Carabao Cup final after securing an emphatic 4-0 victory over Tottenham at Anfield on Thursday night.
The Reds, who trailed 1-0 from the first leg after Sander Berge’s late winner in North London, turned the tie around in dominant fashion.
Despite a goalless first half in the reverse fixture, Liverpool eventually found their rhythm after the break.
Cody Gakpo broke the deadlock with a quick snapshot, giving the home side the lead.
Mohamed Salah extended the advantage from the penalty spot after Gakpo was fouled in the box. Dominik Szoboszlai added a third with a calm finish, while captain Virgil van Dijk sealed the result with a powerful header to complete the rout.
On Wednesday, Newcastle secured their place in the final by defeating Arsenal 2-0 at St. James’ Park, adding to their 2-0 win in the first leg.
The Carabao Cup final is set for March 16.
