A tragic incident occurred at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Zoo in Abeokuta on Saturday when a 35-year-old worker, Babaji Daule, was fatally attacked by a lion.
According to The PUNCH, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Sunday through its spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, in a statement to the press.
According to reports, Daule, a lion handler originally from Bauchi State, had forgotten to secure the locks and barriers of the lion’s enclosure before approaching the animal for feeding.
This oversight allowed the lion to escape and launch a deadly attack on Daule, inflicting fatal injuries to his neck.
The victim’s body was recovered and transported to the Ijaye General Hospital mortuary.
The lion was ultimately shot to free Daule from its grasp.
