The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the death of a truck driver in a fatal accident at Kara Bridge in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, the agency received a distress call at around 4:26 a.m. and swiftly activated its emergency response protocols.
“Upon receiving distress calls through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines, LASEMA dispatched a team from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa to the scene,” Oke-Osanyintolu said in a statement.
On arrival, the response team discovered that a truck, carrying several steel rolls, had overturned while attempting to avoid a collision with a 40-foot container parked on the road. The resulting crash caused the truck to tip over, spilling its heavy cargo.
“Investigations revealed that the articulated truck driver, while in motion, lost control in an effort to avoid hitting the container, causing the vehicle to fall on its side and discharge its cargo,” the LASEMA official explained.
Tragically, the unidentified male driver of the truck lost his life in the accident. Oke-Osanyintolu added that the deceased’s body was removed from the scene before the agency’s arrival.
LASEMA teams worked swiftly to ensure the accident site was secured and to restore normal traffic flow.
“The agency has implemented necessary safety measures, and vehicular movement on the affected road has been fully restored,” Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed.
