The Lagos State Government has announced plans to revamp the Oshodi Transport Interchange to integrate it with the Red Line and Blue Line rail systems as part of the ongoing Rail Mass Transit project.
This move aims to enhance connectivity between the major transportation networks and improve the commuter experience in the state.
The state’s Ministry of Transportation made the disclosure via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, emphasizing the need to optimize the interchange’s design and operations to meet global transportation standards.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, highlighted the necessity of reviewing the current structure of the interchange to align it with the state’s rail integration goals.
“We recognize that for the Oshodi Transport Interchange to function efficiently within the Rail Mass Transit system, a reassessment of its design and operations is crucial. This has led us to engage key stakeholders to identify challenges and find solutions that will enhance its operational efficiency,” Osiyemi stated.
Following a strategic meeting, the ministry outlined key measures to address existing challenges and enhance the interchange’s management. These include a scheduled site inspection to evaluate the interchange’s current functionality, with findings expected to guide targeted improvements.
Additionally, discussions were held on potential collaboration with the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to ensure regular road maintenance around the interchange. This initiative aims to improve accessibility and commuter safety.
Another major concern addressed during the meeting was the issue of street hawking around the interchange, which has posed risks to both pedestrians and commuters. The ministry vowed to work closely with law enforcement agencies to enforce order and ensure safety in the area.
Osiyemi reiterated the state government’s commitment to delivering a world-class transport system.
“Through sustained collaboration and proactive measures, we are confident that the redesigned Oshodi Transport Interchange will serve as a model for effective transportation infrastructure in Nigeria,” he said.
