The Lagos State Government has announced plans to prosecute a woman, identified as Nwakwo Patient, for allegedly disposing of refuse in an unauthorized location.
According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the suspect was apprehended on March 13, 2025, at around 7:47 a.m. in the Alimosho area of Lagos.
Wahab revealed that she was caught “illegally dumping refuse at Alimosho Bus Stop along New Ipaja Road.”
Following her arrest, officials conducted further investigations at her residence and discovered that she lacked a designated waste storage facility.
Although she claimed to be registered with the Private Sector Participant operator servicing the area, Wahab noted that she “was unable to provide any supporting evidence of such registration or payment for waste collection services.”
The commissioner emphasized that the suspect would face legal action under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017 to enforce compliance with waste disposal regulations.
