The Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line on Monday, will significantly increase its daily trips from 54 to 72.
This announcement was made by the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Abimbola Akinajo, through a statement released on Sunday via the agency’s X handle.
Akinajo noted that while the new schedule will enhance daily operations, Sunday services will continue without change.
With this update, commuters can now travel between Marina and Mile 2 in approximately 18 minutes, improving from the previous 25-minute duration.
“The Blue Line train riders will now travel between Marina and Mile 2 in just about 18 minutes from the previous travel time of 25 minutes,” Akinajo stated. “The implication is that there will be a train every 18 minutes both ways, thus allowing commuters to plan their trips.”
Additionally, to incentivize travel during less busy times, a 25 percent discount on fares will be available for journeys made between 10 am and 4 pm daily.
“The new train schedule is potentially expected to reduce journey times, encourage more riders to use the train system during off-peak periods, and reduce transport spending,” Akinajo added.
The updated timetables are now accessible on the LAMATA website, at stations, and through the agency’s social media platforms. Since its launch on September 4, 2023, the Blue Line has successfully transported nearly two million passengers, underscoring its growing role in Lagos’ transportation infrastructure.
