A hit-and-run accident in the Onipanu area of Lagos State claimed the life of an unidentified man on Saturday night.
According to The PUNCH, the tragic incident occurred around 9 pm, according to Nosa Okunbor, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.
Eyewitness reports indicated that the driver involved in the incident fled immediately after striking the victim, leaving him gravely injured.
“Upon the arrival of the Agency’s Response Team at the scene, it was observed that an adult male had been hit by a vehicle with an unknown registration number, and the driver absconded immediately after the incident,” Okunbor stated.
The victim, who sustained severe head injuries, was quickly attended to by LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit. Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the Trauma Centre in Gbagada.
Okunbor confirmed, “The unidentified adult male victim of the hit-and-run incident died while receiving urgent medical treatment at the Trauma Centre in Gbagada.”
The deceased’s body has since been handed over to officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for further investigation.
“The body was bagged and handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit office at Bolade Bus Stop,” Okunbor added.
This incident follows a separate hit-and-run case that occurred on August 19 in the Anthony Oke area, where a pedestrian was severely injured after being struck by a trailer.
In that case, the driver was apprehended by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials.
