The lawmaker for Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 01 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adewale Adedeji, has facilitated the provision of 750 glasses and 50 free cataract surgeries for his constituents.
According to The PUNCH, the three-day initiative, which began on Thursday at the Constituency Office, Unity Centre, focused on enhancing eye health and included the distribution of essential medications.
At the event, Adedeji highlighted the importance of vision health, noting that 250 residents were assisted on the first day alone.
“Clear vision is crucial for every aspect of life, from education to daily tasks. By providing these glasses and surgeries, we aim to enhance the quality of life for our people,” he stated.
“Initially, we planned free cataract surgery for 20 people. However, based on the turnout and feedback from the ophthalmologists, we have decided to increase the number to 50 to accommodate more people,” added Temitope.
Residents in need of corrective lenses received glasses on the spot, while those with cataracts were scheduled for surgery.
Medications for various eye conditions were also distributed to support ongoing eye health.
Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Tinu, a recipient of the free cataract surgery, said, “I had been struggling with my vision for years and couldn’t afford the surgery. This programme has given me a new lease on life.”
Similarly, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji had his eyes examined and was given a pair of medical glasses.
The three-day medical outreach continued on Friday and Saturday this week.
