The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed that no lives were lost in a lone truck accident at TREM Bus Stop, inward Gbagada, which occurred around 9:53 a.m, with Emergency responders arrived at the scene at 10:43 a.m.
The Head of the Public Affairs Unit at LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.
He noted that the driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital before the arrival of the Eagle Response Team at the scene.
The statement also highlighted that the rescue teams present included the LASEMA Response Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Transport Management Authority and the Nigerian Police Force.
According to Okunbor, the accident was caused by a mechanical failure, brake failure, while the truck was in motion, leading to the vehicle losing control and overturning, which blocked a significant portion of the road.
He assured that the road has now been reopened for normal traffic.
The statement read, “Following distress calls to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Wednesday, the Agency activated its Eagle Response Team from the Cappa Base.
“The LASEMA Response Team arrived at the scene to manage the recovery operation of a fallen truck involved in a lone accident inward Gbagada at TREM Bus Stop.
“Upon their arrival, the team discovered a Sino truck, with registration number T-18209LA, carrying 34,000kg of gas, which had overturned and blocked approximately 85% of the road.
“Thanks to the Agency’s advanced heavy-duty equipment, including a crane, the fallen gas tanker was successfully recovered and placed on another flatbed, while the truck was towed to the LASTMA office in Oshodi.
“Further investigation revealed that the truck experienced a mechanical failure (brake failure) while in motion, causing it to lose control and overturn, obstructing most of the road.
“Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was already taken to a nearby hospital before the Eagle Response Team arrived at the scene.
“All necessary safety measures have been activated to protect responders and road users during the operation.
“Primary responders at the scene are working together to ensure the quick recovery of the fallen gas tanker and the restoration of normal traffic flow.
“The recovery operation is still ongoing, with the LASEMA Response Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASTMA, and the Nigerian Police Force all in attendance.”
