Kylian Mbappé played a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s 4-2 victory over Sevilla on Sunday, scoring the opening goal and assisting another as the hosts surged into second place in La Liga, narrowing the gap to Atletico Madrid to just one point ahead of the winter break.
Mbappé’s thunderous strike from outside the box opened the scoring in the 10th minute, followed by Federico Valverde’s long-range effort that doubled their lead 10 minutes later.
Rodrygo added a third in the 34th minute, finishing off a cross from Lucas Vazquez.
Sevilla responded quickly with a header from Isaac Romero in the 35th minute, pulling one back for the visitors.
However, Brahim Diaz restored Madrid’s three-goal lead in the 53rd minute, finishing a well-worked move set up by Mbappé and Vazquez.
Sevilla managed another late goal in the 85th minute, with Dodi Lukebakio capitalizing on a through-ball, but Real Madrid held firm to secure the win, moving two points clear of third-place Barcelona, who suffered a 2-1 loss to Atletico on Saturday, having played one more game than the top two.
