The Governing Council of the Federal University, Lokoja, has authorized the dismissal of four lecturers after they were found guilty of serious offenses, including examination malpractices and sexual misconduct.
The decision was made at the council’s second meeting on Thursday, where the members reviewed the findings from an investigation into the allegations made against the lecturers last year.
The investigation was launched after claims of examination misconduct and sexual harassment were raised against the accused lecturers, prompting the university management to take swift action.
The council, led by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, commended the university administration for adhering to due process in handling the investigation.
Speaking at the meeting, Ndoma-Egba emphasized the council’s firm stance on maintaining ethical standards within the university.
He stated, “The council will not tolerate any unethical conduct in the university” and called for the quick resolution of other pending cases of misconduct, particularly a high-profile issue from the Faculty of Science that had gained significant media attention.
The council also issued a strong warning to staff members and lecturers, stressing that any form of student molestation would not be tolerated.
“No misconduct will be swept under the carpet,” Ndoma-Egba declared, urging students to speak out whenever they are subjected to harassment.
In closing, the council reiterated the importance of protecting students and ensuring a safe academic environment, promising that all cases of misconduct would be addressed with the utmost seriousness.
