The Katsina State Government has received its first shipment of medical supplies from World Medical Relief, a nonprofit organization based in Detroit, USA.
The donation is part of a larger commitment made during Governor Dikko Radda’s visit to the organization’s headquarters in November 2023.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Mohammed, the delivery marks a significant step in the administration’s efforts to improve healthcare services across the state.
“During the Governor’s visit, he expressed his dedication to providing the people of Katsina with access to high-quality healthcare,” Mohammed said.
“He shared the findings of a healthcare needs assessment conducted shortly after his assumption of office, which highlighted the pressing medical challenges faced by the state.”
As a result of this engagement, World Medical Relief pledged to donate ten containers of essential medical equipment and supplies, each valued at approximately $1 million.
The first container, now in Katsina, includes vital resources to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.
Governor Radda described the partnership with World Medical Relief as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to healthcare reform.
“This collaboration will enhance our ability to provide quality healthcare services to our citizens,” he said.
The nonprofit organization has also committed to assisting Katsina State in acquiring and installing advanced medical imaging equipment, including MRI and CT scanners, at a discounted rate.
Additionally, the organization will provide training for local technicians to operate and maintain the equipment.
To ensure equitable distribution, the state government has implemented a strategic plan to deliver the donated supplies to healthcare facilities across Katsina.
“We have prioritized efficient allocation to ensure these vital resources reach the communities that need them most,” Mohammed added.
Since taking office, Governor Radda has initiated significant upgrades to healthcare infrastructure, transforming several facilities into Comprehensive Health Centres and General Hospitals.
These efforts are part of the administration’s broader strategy to improve access to medical care for residents of the state.
“This is just the beginning,” Governor Radda emphasized. “We are committed to creating a healthcare system that meets the needs of every citizen in Katsina.”
