The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening relations with India, aiming to enhance the socio-economic growth of the state.
According to The PUNCH, Sanusi Bature, the spokesperson for Governor Abba Yusuf, conveyed this in a statement issued in Kano on Friday.
Governor Yusuf made these remarks while hosting the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Shri G. Balasubramanian, during a courtesy visit to the Government House.
He emphasized that the historical ties between India and Kano State have spanned several decades, especially in key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, technology, and trade.
“The relationship needs to be strengthened for the mutual benefits of India and Kano State,” the governor noted, highlighting the importance of rekindling these long-standing connections.
Yusuf also expressed confidence in continued cooperation with the Indian government, specifically regarding the completion of two mega power projects at Tiga and Challawa dams.
These projects are viewed as critical to revitalizing Kano’s dormant industries and driving broader socio-economic development in the region.
In his response, Mr. Balasubramanian praised the governor’s focus on impactful initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Kano’s large population, reaffirming India’s willingness to support the state in its developmental journey.
