The Kano State Fire Service on Friday, successfully rescued a woman and her two young sons after they were trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building in the Makwarari area of Kano Municipal Local Government.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the incident occurred in a one-storey residential building measuring 30 feet by 40 feet.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the rescue in a statement released in Kano, which was shared with newsmen on the same day.
“We received an emergency call on Friday, around 9:30 a.m., from our control room by one of our staff members, Ibrahim Isah, that a building collapsed,” Abdullahi said.
He explained that the service immediately dispatched a team of firemen to the scene to carry out the rescue operation.
“Upon receiving the information, we quickly dispatched firemen to the scene,” he added
Thanks to their swift response, the trapped victims—identified as 35-year-old Balaraba Abba, and her sons, 12-year-old Abdulnasir Jilani, and 9-year-old Abdullahi Jilani—were successfully pulled from the debris alive.
They were promptly transported to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital in Kano for medical attention.
The exact cause of the building collapse remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
