The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service has closed the premises of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company due to an outstanding tax debt of N600 million.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Executive Chairman of KADIRS, Jerry Adams, announced the enforcement action early on Friday, explaining that it was carried out under a court order to address the significant tax liability owed to the state.
Adams detailed that the N600 million debt accumulated from 2015 to 2022 and that KAEDCO had previously agreed to settle a substantial portion of it during reconciliation processes.
However, he expressed frustration over KAEDCO’s failure to honor this commitment since the liability was confirmed last year.
“By law, we are authorized to seal and take over their premises to ensure compliance, which is what we executed this morning,” Adams stated.
He also urged other businesses, individuals, and corporate organizations to ensure timely and voluntary compliance with tax obligations.
