Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba may soon find himself without a club as Juventus are reportedly considering ending their partnership with the French star, despite his eligibility to return to the pitch by March 2025.
Pogba, now 30, had originally been hit with a four-year doping ban after a failed test in 2023, but successfully appealed to have it reduced to 18 months, potentially allowing him to play again this season.
However, Juventus appear to be planning for a future that no longer includes the World Cup winner.
According to Italian media, discussions about Pogba’s departure from Juventus are in full swing, with options ranging from a contract termination to a mutual agreement that would allow him to leave the club.
Reports suggested that Pogba could be eyeing a fresh start in the United States, where several MLS clubs have shown interest in his situation.
French and Italian outlets speculate that a move across the Atlantic may offer him the best opportunity to reboot his career.
Juventus, despite Pogba’s shortened ban, seems intent on moving him off their books due to financial considerations.
When active, Pogba earns a substantial €10 million per season, placing him among the club’s top earners alongside prolific striker Dusan Vlahovic.
Since his suspension, the midfielder has been collecting a nominal €2,000 per month, but his full salary would be reinstated once he’s back on the field, significantly impacting the club’s finances.
The financial strain isn’t the only factor driving Juventus’ decision. Over the course of Pogba’s absence, the club has overhauled its midfield with new arrivals and developing talents.
Their €50 million summer signing, Teun Koopmeiners, has slotted seamlessly into the team, while up-and-coming players like Kenan Yildiz have shown great promise.
Additionally, the versatile Douglas Luiz has joined the squad, further limiting the need for Pogba’s services. With Nicolo Fagioli, Manuel Locatelli, and Weston McKennie all excelling in deeper midfield roles, the competition for spots is fierce.
As Calciomercato.com has noted, a mutual termination might be the most sensible solution for both sides.
For Juventus, parting ways with Pogba would relieve a substantial financial burden, freeing up funds to invest in other areas of the squad.
For Pogba, it would present the opportunity to regain his form and make a push for selection in France’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With Juventus reportedly keen on turning the page, Pogba could be forced to find a new club and a new chapter in his career—possibly in the United States, where a fresh start may await.
