American YouTuber and professional boxer, Jake Paul returned to the boxing ring, securing a stunning knockout victory over Mike Perry, and now has his sights set on Mike Tyson.
Former UFC and bare-knuckle champ Perry, known for his toughness, was overwhelmed after just 40 seconds of a brutal clash at the packed Amalie Arena in Tampa, but managed to hold on until the sixth round.
Paul commented post-fight, “He was hard as nails, but I’m sorry it took so long. He may be the King of Violence, but Mike Tyson, you’re next. I am excited for that one.”
After three knockdowns and a final submission in the sixth round, Paul kept his promise to stop “The King of Violence.”
In the early rounds, Paul dominated Perry, repeatedly putting the BKFC star on the canvas against an opponent who struggled defensively. Despite this, Perry’s resilience and toughness kept him going.
Perry’s persistence led to several moments where the referee seemed close to stopping the fight.
Perry managed to get up before the ten count, but his stumble when asked to show his balance prompted the bout to be called off.
Originally, Paul was set to face the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Tyson on Saturday night, but the match was postponed to November due to Tyson’s health concerns.
In addition to his victory, Paul issued a challenge to UFC Light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.
He stated, “Alex Pereira, you said you want to box, I’m the king of this. Come over, we can make it happen. I want you Alex Pereira. I just beat a BKFC champion. I beat multiple UFC champions. He said he wants to box. Alex Pereira, after Mike Tyson, let’s make it happen.”
Paul acknowledged that he had to endure a hand issue and an illness during the fight, admitting he wasn’t at his best but still managed to get the job done.
Despite the improbability of securing a bout with Pereira due to the Brazilian’s UFC contract, Paul’s challenge remains bold.
His performance against Perry may not have significantly boosted his reputation, but it kept him in the spotlight as he secured another knockout victory.
Now, he eagerly awaits his matchup with Tyson in November.
