Israel’s military announced on Tuesday that it had successfully rescued a 52-year-old man, Kaid Farhan Al-Qadi, who had been held captive by Hamas in Gaza since October 7.
The Israel Defense Forces described the operation as “complex” and took place in southern Gaza.
According to an official IDF statement, Al-Qadi, a Bedouin father of 11, is in stable condition and is currently undergoing medical evaluations at a hospital.
His family has been informed, and they are being supported by the IDF during this time.
“He is in a stable medical condition and is being transferred for medical checks at a hospital. His family has been updated with the details, and the IDF is accompanying them,” its statement read.
Al-Qadi, a resident of the Bedouin town of Rahat, was abducted while working in Kibbutz Magen during the Hamas attacks on October 7.
Israeli forces, including IDF and Shin Bet operatives, managed to secure his release after over nine months in captivity. He was held in the southern part of Gaza.
In a related operation that occurred in mid-August, the IDF recovered the remains of six hostages from a tunnel in Gaza during a covert nighttime mission.
This operation, based on intelligence provided by Israel’s security agencies, marked a poignant but tragic milestone in the ongoing efforts to recover those who were abducted.
The night operation, spanning Monday into Tuesday, led to the discovery of the remains of six hostages inside a tunnel network in the Hamad neighborhood of central Khan Younis.
The recovered remains were identified as Avraham Munder, Yoram Metzger, Nadav Popplewell, Alexander Dancyg, Yagev Buchshtab, and Haim Peri.
The approach to the tunnel involved skirmishes with fighters in the vicinity, but once inside, the Israeli forces encountered no resistance.
After the remains were retrieved, the IDF completed the identification process before delivering the heartbreaking news to the families of the deceased hostages.
