The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has reassured residents of Orsu Local Government Area in Imo State of their safety and encouraged those who fled the area due to insecurity to return home.
Danjuma, leading a tactical unit on a clearance operation in Orsu on Tuesday, emphasized that the ongoing peace-building efforts are aimed at restoring confidence and normalcy in the region.
Orsu LGA had been a stronghold for the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Eastern Security Network, where violent activities caused the deaths of hundreds and led to the displacement of many residents in 2020.
Following intensive security operations by the military and law enforcement, the situation has improved, and some displaced persons are now beginning to return to their homes.
During his visit, Danjuma toured several communities in the area, including Eke Ututu Market, Ihiteukwa, Okwu Amaraihe, Awo-Idemili, Ihitenansa, and Amaruru, where he engaged with youth leaders, community stakeholders, and security personnel.
“The efforts of the security forces have helped restore some peace to the region, and it’s encouraging to see displaced persons returning to their homes. We are committed to ensuring the safety of everyone here,” Danjuma said.
The Police Public Relations Officer DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the CP worked closely with a joint security team made up of the police, military, Department of State Services, and local vigilantes, which has helped to reduce criminal activities in the area.
This operation led to the recovery of improvised explosive devices and other weapons from disbanded IPOB/ESN camps.
While at the Orsu LGA Headquarters, Danjuma met with key local figures, including the Chief Security Officer of Orsu, Hon. Emmanuel Ike.
The discussions centered on strengthening security collaborations, sharing intelligence, and improving rapid response mechanisms to enhance public safety in the area.
Danjuma reaffirmed the police command’s dedication to ongoing security efforts, announcing that more patrols would be conducted to maintain order.
He also called on local residents to remain vigilant, urging them to report suspicious activities and collaborate with security forces in sustaining the peace.
“I urge the youth to work with us as we strive to maintain peace and build a secure future for everyone,” Danjuma added.
Accompanying the CP on the tour were the Chairman of Orsu LGA, Friday Ibekaeme, and
