The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to enhancing community engagement and professionalism in 2025.
Egbetokun made this declaration during a visit to the Enugu State Government House on Friday, ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s scheduled one-day visit to the state.
The President is expected to inaugurate several projects initiated by Governor Peter Mbah, including a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre and 150 patrol vehicles equipped with AI-powered cameras for the state’s Distress Response Squad.
While commending Governor Mbah’s contributions to security and development, Egbetokun highlighted the positive impact of the collaboration between the state government and the Nigeria Police.
“Governor Mbah’s support for the police in Enugu is exemplary. The reports I have received on the security improvements here are outstanding,” he said.
“Your strides in ensuring peace and safety, coupled with your developmental projects, are commendable. We remain committed to advancing our policing vision, emphasizing community engagement, professionalism, and the ethical conduct of our officers in 2025.”
Egbetokun expressed optimism about addressing prevailing security challenges with continued cooperation between the police and the state government. “With your support, I am confident we will overcome the challenges and make Nigeria safer for everyone,” he added.
Governor Mbah, in response, acknowledged the Inspector-General’s unwavering support in combating crime in the state. He emphasized the critical role of security in driving economic growth and stability.
“From the onset, the Nigeria Police under your leadership has provided us with invaluable support, both in personnel and equipment, to address our security challenges,” Mbah stated.
“This partnership is crucial as we aim to expand Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. Security forms the bedrock of this vision, and we are grateful for the steadfast collaboration.”
