The Head of the Federation’s Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, has called for greater cooperation among Federal Permanent Secretaries to fast-track the implementation of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press, Eno Olotu, on Monday, Walson-Jack addressed the Permanent Secretaries during an inaugural retreat held in Zuba, Niger State, from September 5 to 7, 2024.
The retreat, themed “Accelerating Public Service Reforms Towards Effective Service Delivery,” emphasized the crucial role of the FCSSIP in transforming Nigeria’s public service.
“This plan is not just a document but a strategic roadmap that will shape a more efficient, accountable, and citizen-focused public service,” Walson-Jack said during the event.
She highlighted the pivotal position of Permanent Secretaries in driving the reforms, encouraging them to align their actions with the objectives of the FCSSIP-25 to ensure successful execution.
“You are the anchors that uphold our governance principles within the MDAs. The trust Nigerians have placed in you reflects your commitment and responsibility,” she stated, urging them to remain committed to good governance.
Walson-Jack also commended the Permanent Secretaries for their dedication to upholding the values of the civil service, reminding them of their role as custodians of institutional knowledge.
She pledged her support in helping them overcome challenges while working towards achieving the civil service’s goals.
“Together, we will navigate difficulties and find solutions that serve our country’s best interests. You can count on my unwavering support,” she reassured.
In her closing remarks, Walson-Jack stressed the importance of values such as accountability, meritocracy, professionalism, and efficiency, calling for a cultural shift towards transparency and responsibility within the civil service.
“By embracing these values, we build a stronger civil service and restore confidence in the Nigerian people,” she added.
