A patrol helicopter was seen hovering above the venue of the #EndBadGovernance protest in Ojota, Lagos State, on Thursday.
The white helicopter circled slowly for about twenty minutes.
Despite the situation, protesters declined to gather in Freedom Park garden, choosing instead to occupy the service lane.
According to The PUNCH, protest leader Tunji Abayomi said the move was an attempt to confine them, stating, “Originally, this is our traditional protest ground, but we won’t allow the government to confine us inside the garden.
Another protester, Steven Adams, expressed his unwillingness to enter the garden, referencing the Lekki toll gate incident during the #EndSARS protest.
“I am security conscious because I don’t know the plans of the police. What if it is a trap?” he said.
Lagos State Police Commissioner Adegoke Fayoade also visited the protest scene.
Arriving around 11:25 am, he was observed monitoring the protesters’ activities.
A mild drama unfolded when Fayoade entered the park to inspect it, as protesters voiced their refusal to gather there. He left the scene shortly after.
The Gani Fawehinmi Park and Peace Park in Ojota are the court-approved routes for protests.
The protesters, who marched from Ikeja under the bridge, arrived in Ojota around 11 am.
