In a tragic incident on Tuesday night, gunmen fatally shot a police officer in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to The PUNCH, the attack occurred at NEPA Junction, where the assailants reportedly dragged the officer out of his residence before killing him.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen meticulously searched the compound to ensure no other police officers were present.
“They spent about 45 minutes during the operation, firing shots to keep residents at bay,” the witness recounted.
Following the night attack, the assailants returned the next morning to torch the Otoko Divisional Police Station, located along the Owerri-Umuahia road.
The wave of violence extended to Umuelemai in Isiala Mbano Local Government, where the gunmen also killed two security guards and set several vehicles ablaze.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, responded to the attacks, stating that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Our tactical team has been deployed to the area to reassure residents of their safety and protection,” he said.
