Gunmen have kidnapped Descon Tor Yaji, the President General of the Kunav United Development Association, a prominent tribal group in Benue State.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Monday at his residence in Tsar Mbaduku, located in Vandeikya Local Government Area.
According to witnesses, Yaji was socializing with friends when the attackers stormed the location and forcibly took him away.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the abduction on Tuesday through a statement by its spokesperson, Catherine Anene.
She assured the public that officers have launched an operation to rescue the victim and urged anyone with valuable information to come forward.
Anene stated, “On 30/12/2024 at about 2030hrs, information was received at Vandeikya Police Division that Mr. Emmanuel Tor Yaji of Tsar Mbaduku was kidnapped at Tsar where he sat relaxing with his friends.
“Swiftly, police detectives were deployed for his rescue and the investigation is ongoing.
“The command will appreciate every useful information that can lead to his rescue. Further information about this operation will be communicated as the investigation progresses.”
