Gunmen have kidnapped a Nigerian Navy officer, Lt. Cynthia Akor, along with two other individuals in the Mpape area of Abuja.
The abduction occurred on Friday night, and the attackers are reportedly demanding a ransom of N100 million for their release.
According to The PUNCH, a source familiar with the incident, who requested anonymity due to security concerns, confirmed the development on Saturday.
“One of the three people kidnapped in Mpape on Friday night is a Defence Headquarters officer, Lt. Cynthia Akor. The kidnappers have already contacted their families and are demanding N100 million in ransom,” the source revealed.
Efforts to get an official response from the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, and the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, were unsuccessful as they had not responded to inquiries at the time of this report.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, stated that she was looking into the matter.
“I will confirm and get back to you shortly,” she said. However, no further details had been provided as of the time of filing this report.
The abduction in Mpape adds to growing security concerns in the Federal Capital Territory, where incidents of kidnappings have been on the rise in recent months.
