Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was on Wednesday prevented from accessing the official quarters of the state House of Assembly along Aba Road, Port Harcourt.
The premises, where lawmakers aligned with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have been holding legislative sessions, were reportedly locked when the governor arrived.
Fubara, accompanied by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, found the gate shut upon arrival.
Addressing journalists at the scene, the governor expressed frustration over his inability to reach Speaker Martin Amaewhule, whom he had earlier invited for a meeting.
“I made several attempts to speak with the Speaker before coming here. I even sent a letter inviting him,” Fubara stated.
“Unfortunately, as you can see, the place is completely sealed off, and there is no indication that anything will happen today.”
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people, emphasizing that his actions were in their best interest.
“What we are doing is for the good of our people, and that remains our priority,” he said. “There is no cause for alarm. I expect to hear from them after today.”
