Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has inaugurated a significant road project. The 35.6-kilometer road will connect 62 agrarian communities, linking Bagoma to Gagumi via several villages.
According to The PUNCH, this development comes in an effort to stimulate economic growth and enhance security in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Governor Sani praised the security agencies for their role in restoring relative peace over the past six months, expressing optimism that continued security measures will rejuvenate the local economy.
At the project’s launch on Saturday, the governor highlighted the road’s anticipated benefits; improving access for people and agricultural produce, reducing post-harvest losses, and creating both direct and indirect job opportunities during construction. He emphasized that the project is part of his administration’s Rural Transformation Drive, which seeks to address infrastructure gaps, narrow the urban-rural divide, and boost agriculture.
Sani noted that his administration has prioritized infrastructure development, with 62 road projects totaling 817 kilometers initiated across the state since 2023.
“My presence here to flag off the re-construction of this 35.6km road from Bagoma to Gagumi through Ungwan Fari, Idi Labo, Awaro, Tashan Keji, and Sabon Layi marks the beginning of the restoration of peace and stability to this long-suffering and troubled Local Government,” he stated. “Birnin Gwari Local Government is a major gateway to many parts of Nigeria. It is a resource-rich local government. It has huge mineral deposits and arable land for farming.”
He further assured that the Rural Transformation Drive is gaining momentum, addressing infrastructural deficits, bridging the urban-rural divide, revitalizing local economies, and enhancing rural living conditions.
The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubair Maigwari II, expressed gratitude to both Governor Sani and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their commitment to bringing development projects to the region.
He also welcomed the announcement that President Tinubu has ordered the reconstruction of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway.
