Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, established the state’s Refugees Commission due to the concerning high number of Internally Displaced Persons in the state.
According to The PUNCH, he unveiled an initial grant of N500 million as part of his commitment to supporting the IDPs.
This announcement was made on Monday in Minna, following his presentations to 700 households who received relief materials from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.
“The state refugees commission will operate under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and effectively address the difficulties faced by the IDPs.
“We are supposed to feed Nigeria not to be fed but unfortunately this is where we find ourselves,” Bago said.
