The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Gombe State, Muhammad Bello, has announced that Yahaya Buba, the uncle who tied up his 21-year-old nephew, Adamu Mohammed, resulting in the amputation of his arms, will be charged with attempted murder.
According to The PUNCH, Commandant Bello condemned the actions of Buba, stating that his actions were an attempt on Mohammed’s life and have left him incapacitated.
He also criticized the victim’s father for misusing funds provided for his son’s treatment and failing to provide proper care.
The commandant said, “We are charging him for attempted murder. What he did was an attempt to the boy’s life, for life he has incapacitated him.”
Debunking insinuations that the Corps would release him following the close ties, he shares with the victim, he bemoaned the complicity of the victim’s father for using the money provided to treat his son.
“We are not mad to release him (the perpetrator). Initially, we arrested the biological father for his pure act of cruelty.
“The Money is given to him by the uncle he takes it and flees leaving his son to suffer. He didn’t give the boy the proper treatment early enough even when the culprit Yahaya Buba, provided it,” he said.
Bello lambasted an alleged Non-Governmental Organisation for taking credit for the treatment of Mohammed.
He said, “We will investigate Gongola Charity Foundation claims of course that is not correct. It is dubious for them to take credit for doing nothing. NSCDC has been taking care of the boy, in line with its mandate of defending the defenceless.”
