Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has revealed that a standing committee has been established to explore ways to implement the new national minimum wage of N70,000 for workers in the state.
According to The PUNCH, Yahaya made this disclosure on Saturday in a press statement signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli, following his courtesy call to Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Yahaya revealed that the standing committee, headed by his deputy Manassah Jatau, is exploring ways to implement the new national minimum wage for workers.
“We are committed to ensuring that our workers receive the new minimum wage, and we are working closely with labour unions to make it happen,” Yahaya said.
The committee, headed by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, is tasked with navigating the implementation process, including consequential adjustments.
“It’s a law, but implementation requires careful consideration and planning,” Yahaya explained. “We want to get it right, and we’re taking the necessary steps to ensure a smooth rollout.”
This development comes after Yahaya initially expressed concerns about the viability of paying the new minimum wage in July.
“We are working hard to make sure our workers receive the benefits they deserve,” Yahaya added.
