Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has presented a proposed budget of N320.11 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, emphasizing significant investment in capital projects.
The proposed budget, labeled the “Budget of Transformation and Resilience,” was submitted to the State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The budget earmarks N111.09 billion (34.7%) for recurrent expenses and N209.02 billion (65.3%) for capital expenditures.
Highlighting the state’s priorities, Governor Yahaya remarked, “This budget is designed to meet the developmental aspirations of Gombe State. Of the total N320.11 billion, N209.02 billion will fund capital projects, while N111.09 billion is reserved for recurrent expenditure.”
A breakdown of the budget shows that the economic sector is set to receive the largest share, with N138.04 billion allocated to it.
The social sector follows with N58.87 billion, while general administration is allocated N9.01 billion. The law and justice sector will receive N3.11 billion.
The governor also outlined the revenue expectations for the year, projecting N160.27 billion from recurrent revenue and N71.52 billion from capital receipts. An estimated closing balance of N11.68 billion is anticipated for 2024.
Speaking on the broader goals of the budget, Yahaya assured residents of the state’s commitment to inclusive development, saying, “This proposal aligns with the economic realities at local, national, and global levels. It prioritizes sustainability, equity, and inclusiveness while addressing critical needs in key sectors of the economy.”
