The Katsina State Police Command confirmed on Friday that a gas cylinder explosion at Tamal Filling Station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State caused extensive damage to six vehicles.
In a statement, police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu described how the incident unfolded.
He said the explosion occurred along the Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road, prompting a rapid response from officers of the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters and military personnel.
“Police operatives heard a loud explosion, and the Divisional Police Officer immediately led a team to the scene in collaboration with military personnel,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated.
Upon arrival, responders found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames, posing a significant risk to lives and property. The joint team quickly contained the fire, preventing further escalation.
“Six vehicles were significantly damaged by the fire. Thankfully, no lives were lost during the incident,” he added.
The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has ordered an in-depth investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion.
“Our operatives are committed to uncovering the root cause of this incident, and further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Sadiq-Aliyu noted.
Authorities have assured residents of their ongoing efforts to ensure safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
