American rapper, Travis Scott, was released by French authorities on Saturday after being held in custody for 36 hours following an investigation into alleged violence in Paris.
A representative for the artist, along with prosecutors, confirmed his release.
The 33-year-old rapper, known for his multiple Grammy Award nominations, was taken into custody after an altercation occurred at the five-star Georges V hotel in Paris.
The incident involved a confrontation between Scott and one of his security guards, which led to the intervention of another security agent.
Police were summoned to the scene early on Friday, and Scott was subsequently arrested on charges of “violence against a security agent,” as noted by the Paris prosecutor’s office.
However, after an investigation, the prosecutor’s office confirmed Scott’s release, stating, “Travis Scott has been released without charges,” due to “insufficient evidence” to proceed with the case. The rapper’s management team had been in “direct communication with Parisian authorities to swiftly resolve” the matter, according to a US representative.
Scott had been spotted earlier attending the men’s basketball semi-finals at the Paris Olympics on Thursday evening, just a day before the incident took place.
This isn’t the first time Scott, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, has faced legal issues.
In June, he was arrested in Miami Beach on charges of trespassing and disorderly intoxication after allegedly being involved in a fight on a yacht.
His most notorious legal trouble occurred in November 2021, when ten people lost their lives during a crowd crush at his concert at the Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas.
Despite these challenges, Scott remains an influential figure in the music industry.
His album ‘Utopia’ earned a nomination for Best Rap Album at this year’s Grammy Awards. Beyond music, Scott has built a successful career with lucrative partnerships, including merchandising deals with Nike, video game collaborations with Epic Games, and a popular promotion with McDonald’s.
Scott shares two children with Kylie Jenner, a prominent social media influencer and entrepreneur.
