The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the rescue of four individuals involved in a traffic accident on Monday evening.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, detailed the incident, which left the victims with severe injuries after a collision between two buses on the Third Mainland Bridge.
Oke-Osanyintolu explained that the accident occurred as the vehicles were headed towards Oworo, stating, “Following distress calls received through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines at 17:25, LASEMA activated its emergency response team from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.”
He further noted that first responders reached the scene by 17:35.
Upon arrival, they found that a white Toyota Coaster bus, with registration number KJA-380-XV, had crashed into a stationary Lagos State BRT bus, registered AGL938-YD.
“This occurred while the Coaster bus was in motion, resulting in significant damage and injuries. The Toyota Coaster bus crashed into the parked BRT while attempting to overtake a car as it headed towards Iyana-Oworo,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.
All four injured individuals, including the driver, were provided pre-hospital care by LASEMA paramedics before being transferred to nearby government hospitals.
“No fatalities were reported,” he added, highlighting that the recovery operation, led by the agency, involved extricating the trapped passengers.
The Toyota Coaster bus was later towed to Iyana-Oworo and handed over to the police, marking the conclusion of the operation.
