The Kano State Fire Service on Saturday recovered the body of an unidentified man found at the bottom of a well, bringing a tragic end to an emergency call received earlier that day.
Speaking on the incident, the Fire Service spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, said, “Today, Saturday, 2nd November 2024, at approximately 16:15 hours, the central control room of the department received a call for emergency assistance from the DPO of Kwalli Police Division.”
The report indicated that a lifeless body had been spotted in a well at an uncompleted building located in the Kadama Bakin Titi area of Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano.
Rescue officials arrived at the scene at about 16:40 hours, quickly assessing the surroundings.
“Our team arrived at the scene of the incident at approximately 16:40 hours and noticed some dried blood stains around the well,” Abdullahi reported, describing evidence of possible injury or struggle near the site.
Looking into the well, the team discovered the decomposing body of a young man, estimated to be around 25 years old.
The spokesperson noted that the individual was a stranger to residents in the vicinity, and his identity remains unknown.
“The body was swollen, indicating that he must have been in the well for the last four days or thereabouts, according to local residents,” Abdullahi explained.
This timeline was derived from the state of decomposition and the reports from nearby residents, who suspected the man might have been there for days before his discovery.
The operation concluded with the Fire Service removing the deceased from the well and placing him in the custody of ASP Sani Abdulhamid, DCO2 of Kumbotso Police Division, as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
