Fire has engulfed the Araromi Spare Parts Market at Agodi-Gate in Ibadan, Oyo State, early Saturday morning, destroying property worth millions of naira.
The blaze, which reportedly started around 2 a.m., continued to rage as firefighters battled to control the inferno.
According to The PUNCH, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, Akinyemi Akinyinka, said, “This is a serious situation at Agodi-Gate. We need all the help we can get; water tanker owners should come to our aid. The situation is intense, but we are doing our best.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
This is the latest in a series of tragic fire incidents that have hit Ibadan in recent days.
On Friday, a fire at a residential building in Ori-Eru, Idikan, claimed the lives of three family members, including a husband, wife, and their grandson. The fire, which broke out at 3:46 a.m., left significant damage to the property.
Earlier in the week, a fire on Sunday morning destroyed three shops in another part of Ibadan. However, the swift response from the state fire service prevented further damage, saving 13 shops.
In another incident last Friday night, a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church in the Lagelu Local Government Area was engulfed in flames during a vigil.
The fire, which started at approximately 9:30 p.m., reportedly trapped worshippers inside, although details of casualties remain unconfirmed.
