A fire outbreak at Alagbede Tipper Garage in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State early Tuesday morning destroyed three trucks before firefighters contained the flames.
The incident, which occurred around 1:45 a.m., was traced to a waste collection truck that had refused inside.
According to the Kwara State Fire Service, lit charcoal in the refuse smouldered before igniting, causing the fire to spread to two other trucks.
Confirming the incident, the Fire Service’s spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, said “The Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call at 01:35 hours on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, reporting a fire at Alagbede Tipper Garage. Our team responded promptly, arriving at the scene to find some trucks already engulfed in flames.
“Due to the swift intervention of our firefighters, the fire was contained, and only three out of the 42 trucks in the garage were affected.”
The Director of the Fire Service, Falade John, urged residents to adhere to safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
Meanwhile, a separate fire incident on Monday destroyed a shop at No. 1 Awolowo Road, Tanke, Ilorin.
Adekunle, in another statement, disclosed that the fire started around 4:15 p.m. and involved two shops. However, firefighters successfully prevented the flames from spreading beyond the first shop.
“Our investigation revealed that the fire originated from a solar battery in one of the shops,” he stated, advising the public to ensure that solar power systems are installed in well-ventilated areas to minimize fire risks.
The fire service reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive fire prevention and emergency response efforts.
