Popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as K1 De Ultimate, has declined to apologise to Islamic clerics (Alfas) following a controversial comment he made during his late mother’s Fidau prayer, which many found offensive.
In a video circulating online, K1 was seen speaking with a man while making preparations for his mother’s 8-day Fidau prayer.
During the conversation, the artist used the term “Ganusi” in reference to certain Islamic clerics.
The remark was widely interpreted as suggesting that some Alfas attend such events primarily for financial gain.
The Fidau prayer, a key Islamic rite held to honour the deceased, took place on Friday, January 24, and was attended by prominent celebrities and respected clerics, including Sheikh Faruq Onikijipa, who delivered a sermon at the ceremony.
In his sermon, Sheikh Onikijipa addressed K1’s comments, offering both corrections and criticisms, and called on the musician to apologise to the Alfas.
Despite the backlash, K1 De Ultimate has stood firm in his position, insisting that he has no reason to apologise.
He argued that doing so would imply he had committed a wrong, which he denies.
He said, “To admit guilt means saying, ‘Okay, don’t be angry.’ But there’s no reason for that because I have done nothing wrong. If you admit guilt, you are saying the accusations are true, which they are not.”
