Following President Bola Tinubu’s directive, victims of the recent fuel tanker explosion in Suleja, Niger State, have been moved to advanced medical facilities in Abuja for specialized treatment.
The tragic incident, which occurred when a fuel tanker overturned and exploded as residents attempted to collect spilled fuel, has claimed over 80 lives.
Survivors are now receiving care at two tertiary hospitals in Abuja.
Rabiu Ibrahim, media aide to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday.
He revealed that 20 patients are currently receiving treatment at the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, while two others have been admitted to the Federal Medical Centre in Jabi.
“All the patients were transferred with the support of medical personnel and family members to ensure their transition to the referral centres was seamless,” Ibrahim noted.
The Niger State Government commended the Federal Government for its prompt intervention.
“We are grateful for the swift and effective response, which has provided much-needed relief to those affected by this unfortunate disaster,” a state official said.
The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation reassured Nigerians of its continued commitment to monitoring the situation and sharing updates.
“The Ministry will continue to provide timely information on the progress of the victims and government’s ongoing efforts,” the statement added.
