The Federal Government has addressed the passport printing challenges at Nigeria’s consulates in New York and Atlanta by installing new machines, ensuring a smoother application process for Nigerians in the diaspora.
This intervention follows directives from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in January 2025, leading to the Nigeria Immigration Service delivering and setting up the new printers on Tuesday.
The move comes in response to complaints from Nigerians abroad, who have experienced significant delays in obtaining passports due to outdated printing equipment.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Babatunde Alao, quoted Tunji-Ojo as saying: “The Ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery. The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad.”
With the new machines in place, passport processing is expected to become more efficient, reducing wait times and easing the burden on applicants.
The statement also highlighted that the installation is part of broader reforms by the Ministry of Interior, which include advancements such as the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and the rollout of contactless solutions in additional regions.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that these improvements align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians.
