The Federal Government has granted approval for an airstrip at Canaanland, the headquarters of Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel, located in the Ota area of Ogun State.
According to The PUNCH, the announcement was made by the church’s founder, Bishop David Oyedepo, during a special thanksgiving service at Covenant University Chapel, marking the Tehillah Night Special Edition.
This event was part of celebrations held in honour of Oyedepo, who recently turned 70 in September.
In a short video that has since surfaced, Oyedepo shared the news with the congregation, expressing joy over the latest development.
He emphasized how the airstrip would greatly enhance his travel logistics, allowing him to fly directly from the church premises without needing to go through a commercial airport.
Addressing the congregation, Oyedepo said, “I am sure you will be glad to know that the Federal Government has approved an airstrip for Canaanland. I won’t need to fly a helicopter to the airport. I can leave from here to wherever I am going. Members with their planes will have where to land and park.”
The project is expected to improve transportation for the numerous worshippers and visitors who attend large church programs, especially international visitors who flock to the annual Shiloh event and other major gatherings at Canaanland.
Tunde Moshood, the media aide to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed the news, stating, “Yes, the minister approved the airstrip. It is a private airstrip, and I can confirm that the approval has been granted.”
Oyedepo used the occasion to inspire the youth in his congregation, urging them to discover their purpose and follow it with passion. Reflecting on Covenant University alumni who have gone on to successful careers in aviation, he proudly mentioned, “Won’t you be glad to know that there are some captains who are graduates of Covenant University that fly me? We don’t have an aviation department here, but they found their place in God and went after it. That’s what this university is all about, it’s not about boxing you up. It’s about allowing you to locate God’s plan and pursue it accordingly. Young people, don’t play away your life, you don’t have a spare.”
The new airstrip stands as a testament to the growing influence of Canaanland, not just as a place of worship but as a thriving community with increasing infrastructure.
This latest addition is set to further solidify the church’s ability to accommodate its global congregation, particularly during major church events that attract worshippers from all over the world.
