The Federal Government has started the review of the 2007 Public Procurement Act.
According to The PUNCH, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), will lead the committee set up for the review.
The committee, comprising esteemed individuals such as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, a representative from the World Bank, technical consultants from KPMG Nigeria, and the Permanent Secretary and Cabinet Affairs Office serving as the Member/Secretary, has been tasked with completing an assignment within one month.
The announcement came through a statement released by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The committee’s inauguration took place in Abuja, with George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, presiding over the ceremony on Thursday.
The statement quoted Akume as stating: “Having implemented the Public Procurement Act for over 15 years, this administration has seen the need to review and strengthen the provisions of the Act to make it more responsive to the needs of the people.
“The objective of this review is to ensure realistic procurement outcomes in the face of current economic realities and to enhance budget implementation and ease of doing business.”
