Darwin Núñez’s late brace secured a 2-0 victory for Liverpool at Brentford on Saturday, as the Premier League leaders earned their first league win of 2025 in dramatic fashion.
Before the breakthrough, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo missed promising chances, while Ryan Gravenberch tested Mark Flekken with a diving save and Dominik Szoboszlai grazed the crossbar as Liverpool ramped up the pressure.
Brentford, however, looked poised to claim a hard-fought draw until Núñez struck in the 91st minute, converting Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross from close range.
He doubled the lead just two minutes later, securing all three points for the visitors.
Liverpool remain top of the table with 50 points from 21 games, extending their lead to seven over Arsenal, who play Aston Villa later in the day.
Brentford sit 11th with 28 points from 22 matches.
According to ESPN Global Research, Núñez now boasts six stoppage-time goals in the Premier League.
