Wolverhampton Wanderers fought back to secure a crucial 1-1 draw against Everton in their Premier League clash on Saturday night, with Marshall Munetsi’s goal earning them a valuable point in their fight for survival.
Earlier in the day, Ipswich’s defeat to Crystal Palace had presented Wolves with a golden opportunity to create some breathing room above the relegation zone.
Though they had the chances to claim all three points, their finishing let them down.
A vibrant pre-match pyrotechnic display lit up Molineux, but the game itself took time to ignite. That changed in the 33rd minute when Jack Harrison found the net for Everton, his shot taking a deflection that wrongfooted Jose Sa.
The goal was a timely response to David Moyes’ pre-match demand for more goals from the winger.
Despite their poor home record, losing 10 of their last 15 league matches, Wolves refused to be discouraged. Just seven minutes later, Munetsi opened his account for the club, calmly guiding Jean Ricner-Bellegarde’s precise pass into the net to level the score.
Buoyed by the equalizer, Wolves pressed forward in the second half. Substitute Pablo Sarabia came close in the 51st minute, his free-kick curling just wide into the side netting.
The hosts kept the pressure on, with Joergen Strand Larsen narrowly missing from a tight angle and a chaotic goal-mouth scramble somehow failing to yield a goal.
Everton had their own chances on the counter, and Wolves nearly paid the price for their attacking intent. Beto unleashed a first-time effort that seemed destined for the net, but Sa reacted sharply, diving low to push it away.
Despite dominating possession, Wolves couldn’t find a winner. However, the draw pushed them to 23 points, six ahead of Ipswich and Leicester, who remain in the drop zone.
