Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a commanding 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town at Anfield on Saturday, thanks to Cody Gakpo’s standout performance.
The Dutch forward netted twice and provided an assist as the Reds maintained their six-point cushion over Arsenal.
The win moved Liverpool to 53 points, well clear of Arsenal, who edged Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in their own fixture.
Meanwhile, Ipswich remained in the relegation zone, occupying 18th place with 16 points, trailing Wolves on goal difference.
Liverpool started brightly, breaking the deadlock in the 11th minute. Ibrahima Konaté found Dominik Szoboszlai in space just outside the box, and the Hungarian midfielder expertly shifted onto his left foot before placing a precise shot into the bottom-right corner.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the 35th minute when Gakpo’s pinpoint cross picked out Mohamed Salah at the far post. From an improbable angle, the Egyptian superstar blasted the ball into the roof of the net.
Liverpool capped off an impressive first half with a third goal just before the break.
Szoboszlai’s first-time effort forced a save, but Gakpo was on hand to convert the rebound from close range in the 44th minute.
Ipswich showed some attacking intent early in the second half as Liam Delap went down in the Liverpool box under pressure from Konaté, but the referee dismissed their appeals for a penalty.
The visitors managed their first shot on target in the 60th minute through Omari Hutchinson, though Alisson made a comfortable save.
However, Ipswich’s resolve was soon broken again. Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a sensational cross from the right, and Gakpo rose high to power a header into the net in the 66th minute.
Alexander-Arnold nearly added a fifth when his first-time strike hit the post, as Ipswich struggled to contain Liverpool’s relentless attack.
Despite a late push from the visitors, their only reward came in the 90th minute when Jacob Greaves headed home, denying Liverpool a clean sheet in an otherwise one-sided encounter.
With Gakpo leading the charge, Liverpool reinforced their dominance at the summit, keeping Arsenal at arm’s length in the title race.
