Striker Nicolas Jackson came agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock for Chelsea, hitting the post with a close-range header, as the Blues were held to a goalless stalemate against Everton at a windy Goodison Park on Sunday.
The result denied Chelsea the opportunity to take the top spot in the Premier League table.
Blustery conditions posed challenges for both sides, but each managed to create opportunities.
Jackson was thwarted from point-blank range by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who secured his side’s fifth clean sheet in six matches.
At the opposite end, Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez produced a brilliant save to deny Jack Harrison, while defender Tosin Adarabioyo made a crucial block to stop Iliman Ndiaye’s goal-bound effort.
Chelsea remain in second place with 35 points, trailing leaders Liverpool by a single point, although they have played two games more.
Everton, on the other hand, moved up to 15th in the table with 16 points from 16 matches, sitting four points above the relegation zone.
