The Premier League has confirmed an adjustment to its summer transfer window schedule, introducing two separate periods due to “exceptional” circumstances tied to the FIFA Club World Cup.
The first phase of the window will be open from Sunday, June 1, to Tuesday, June 10, before temporarily closing.
It will then reopen on Monday, June 16, and run until Monday, September 1, aligning with the standard timeframe.
This decision follows FIFA’s announcement last October regarding an interim transfer period for clubs competing in the Club World Cup, which kicks off in the United States on June 14.
The adjustment provides teams like Chelsea and Manchester City with an early opportunity to strengthen their squads and secure contract renewals ahead of the tournament.
Despite this, reports revealed last in February that several Premier League clubs initially resisted the idea of being unable to conduct transfers during the Club World Cup, arguing that it placed them at a competitive disadvantage.
To address these concerns, clubs advocated for an earlier domestic window, leading to discussions within the league.
Following a Premier League meeting on Thursday, a consensus was reached.
In an official statement, the league clarified, “The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the Fifa Club World Cup. It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September.”
For comparison, last summer’s transfer window was active from June 14 to August 30.
